ATTITUDE OF PUBLIC:
At present, there is indifference and negligence that is primarily the result
of general acceptance of men over women because of which violent acts against
women have not been viewed as violent by women themselves due to their
religious values and social attitudes. Recently there raised a issue of crime against
women which has been transformed from a private issue into a public problem. The
present study tries to explore the main causes in increasing the trend of crime against
women the effectiveness and impact of existing laws to control followed by important
suggestions to prevent further commission of particular crimes in India.
POSITION OF WOMEN IN INDIA:
Women are considered as a weaker sex not only from the physical point
of view but also from the sociological aspect. When we refer smritis, we notice
that woman has always been a dependant on man. During childhood on her father,
after marriage on her husband and during her old age on her son.
“WHERE WOMEN ARE RESPECTED THERE GOD RESIDE”
OFFENCES AGAINST WOMEN:
Women are the victims of offences such as rape, murder, robbery,
cheating etc. Which are not specially directed at them, there are designated as
crimes against women, which are directed specifically against them and are
INDIAN PENAL CODE,1860 :
Among all such offences, most probably women are the victims of
Sexual offences like rape and also kidnapping. As per section 375to 377
of IPC talks about sexual offences.
Section 375 defines rape, which is derived from a latin term, RAPIO, which means
TO SEIZE. Literally rape means a forcible seizure and that is essential characteristics
of offence .We can also say that intercourse with a women without her consent.
A man is said to commit “RAPE” only under the following circumstances :
1. Against her will
2. Without her consent
3. With her consent, when her consent has been obtained by putting her in fear
of death or hurt.
4. Without her consent, when the man knows that he is not her husband and
and that consent is given because she believes that he is another man to whom
she is legally married.
5. With her consent, but when the consent is given At the time of unsoundness
of mind or intoxication.
6. With or without her consent, when she is under the age of sixteen years.
PUNISHMENT FOR RAPE:
Section 376 deals with the punishment for rape. It has been mentioned
whoever commits rape shall be punished with imprisonment of either description
for a term which shall not be less than seven years but which may be for a term
which may extend to ten years and shall also be liable to fine.
Kidnapping and Abduction for different purpose(section 359 to 373).
As per section 363 talks about the punishment for kidnapping.
The punishment for Kidnapping varies according to the purpose. Whoever kidnaps
any person from India or from lawful guardianship, shall be punished with
imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, and
also shall liable for fine.
CAUSES FOR CRIME AGAINST WOMEN:

b. Psychological Environment
2. ORTHODOX THOUGHT:
a. Personal causes
e. Lack of proper moral education
As per our hypothesis , it is crystal clear that the sharp increase in crime rates from
7.6% in 2003 to 8.8% in 2007 and gradually increased as 13% in 2011 census
in the last five years at the national level figures show a hazardous situation in the
country like India with respect and security of women .System of India maintains
law and order situation of the country, so that one should feel safe and secure.

BUT TEACH YOUR SON TO BEHAVE PROPERLY”.
